Scary Sensations: Dizziness, light-headed, tingling

Catastrophic Scary Thought: “I’m going to faint!”

Stop Panic Attack Counter Argument: “These are merely a harmless symptoms of hyperventilation. Hyperventilation symptoms are scary, but they are completely harmless. Fainting isn’t even that harmful, but I am actually in less danger of fainting while I have these sensations than I am when I feel relaxed.”

Panic Attack Dizziness & Fainting Help…

Panic Attacks causes you to feel light-headed and dizzy, but it NEVER causes fainting. Fainting, or syncope, is caused by a dramatic drop in blood pressure. If you are having a panic attack your blood pressure actually increases a little bit – it does not go down. It is extremely rare to faint during a panic attack. As a matter of fact, when you are having a panic attack you are actually less likely to faint than when you are not having one. To put it another way, you are more likely to faint when you are feeling normal than when you are having a panic attack. This all goes back to just how deceiving or unreliable emotional reasoning and other cognitive errors can be.

While actual fainting is almost unheard of, it is extremely common that people having a panic attack think they are about to faint. This is all part of the false alarm process that causes panic attacks. This happens because dizziness, light-headedness, and tingling sensations are a result of hyperventilation. Hyperventilation is a natural biological response to the fight or flight reaction but if you are not fighting or “flighting”, so to speak, it will make you feel dizzy or light-headed. It will NOT cause you to faint. The symptoms, feelings, and sensations of hyperventilation can be scary, but they are actually completely harmless. To neutralize the sensations of dizziness, light-headedness and tingling do belly breathing.

The Step-by-Step Stop Panic Attack System can teach you on a deep level that panic does not cause fainting and that the these sensations, while scary, are completely harmless. As you become more and more fully convinced of this truth you will be less and less afraid of a panic attack and actually have less anxiety. The certainty of safety replaces anxiety. I’ll let you in on a secret that saved my life…

If you are not afraid of Panic Attacks, they can not show up in your life.

Stop General Anxiety and Panic Attacks Fast

If you are not afraid of Panic Attacks, they can not show up in your life. Panic attacks are you being afraid of the sensations you feel. If you dispute the fear you have of these sensations with rational thoughts and become convinced of the truth that all these sensations are completely harmless, it will be impossible for you to get panic attacks. This is a remarkable and powerful truth. If you were not afraid of the way you feel you would not get panic attacks. True.

This is why we are disputing these scary thoughts and sensations one-by-one starting with dizziness and fainting…

How many times have you had a panic attack? Several times? More than 10? More than 50? More than 100!? I am almost positive that whoever you are reading this can say that of all the times you have experienced panic or extreme anxiety you have NEVER fainted. If you have fainted it was because you have syncope unrelated to fainting and you would already know this. Even then I bet whoever you are reading this, even if you have syncope, you have never fainted during a panic attack.

Panic Attack Dizziness & Fainting Facts…

Thousands and thousands of people have a panic attack everyday. it is studied extensively and thoroughly by the medical community. If panic attacks caused fainting the medical community would certainly know it. It absolutely does not cause fainting. Fainting during a panic attack is extremely extremely rare. A lot of things can cause you to faint. Just like you see in the movies and on t.v. you can faint at the site of something gross, when you hear disturbing news, or from standing up too long. You can not faint from panic. It is extremely hard for you body to faint during a panic attack and you can certainly never will yourself to faint. Try it right now. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

The most common type of fainting (vasovagal syncope) is a natural biological response to low blood pressure or any temporary conditions in which your brain is not getting enough oxygen. Your entire body is designed to provide your brain oxygen. Fainting is just a way for you body to immediately get you in a prone position so your heart won’t have to work against gravity. Since your blood pressure actually increases slightly during a panic attack it almost biologically impossible for you to faint while you are having a panic attack. There are other causes of vasovagal syncope (fainting) such as hemophobia (fear of blood), but all of those causes are in no way related to panic disorder.

Fainting actually is not that dangerous. Normally people crumble like a rag doll when they faint. They usually do not fall flat on their face. People only normally lose consciousness for few seconds. The only way you can injure your self from fainting is from a falling trauma, but this does not happen as often as you think it would. You can use this to your advantage in order to overcome your fear of fainting. Next time you are afraid of fainting “Beard the lion in his own den.” When your thoughts try to make you afraid of the harmless sensations you feel fight back! Say, “OK. Faint. It is normally not harmless anyway, and I would rather risk that little chance of harm than walk around scared of these harmless sensations all day. Go ahead. Faint. Put up or shut up. Do it.”

It is rare, but you may faint during a panic attack but not because you are having a panic attack. If you are at risk of fainting during a panic attack it is because you already suffer from syncope or fainting spells. If you suffer from syncope, you will know it because you will have already fainted before. You will have a medical history of having actually fainted – NOT almost fainting, but actually fainting. Also if you do suffer from syncope, it is much more likely that you will faint when you are NOT having a panic attack, not while you are. In other words, the only time you are going to faint during a panic attack is if you also suffer from syncope and even then you will probably not faint during a panic attack because panic attacks actually help prevent fainting. This is like saying you might trip and fall during a panic attack if you are a clumsy person and already have a history of tripping and falling. You will also likely trip and fall anyway if you are a clumsy person whether you are having a panic attack or not. However, you are actually less likely to trip and fall while you are having a panic attack than in normal life, but since you are a clumsy person it could happen. However it is just a coincidence that you happen to be a clumsy person and you get panic attacks. One does NOT cause the other to happen. That’s just an example, but I think you get the point.

I want to make something clear: The things like dizzyness that cause fear? Thats not a side effect. thats completely working as intended. I noticed some time ago that the feelings are generated internally for the purpose of CAUSING this terror, to get a reaction.

And to be fair, it is really, really, really good at that! I noticed that my brain can take infinite false positives and come out ahead. A false negative however…Tiger food.

@Kamrom.

I am interested in your statement about the dizziness happening to cause the panic attack. I feel so much that my dizziness creates the panic. Please enlighten me on how it could be just the reverse.
Thank you.
